The Department of Agronomy, College of Agriculture, Vellanikkara, organized a Millet Harvest Festival as part of the Network Project for Enhancing Millet Cultivation in Kerala through Technological Interventions. The project aims to develop a low-input package for millet cultivation across various agro-ecological zones of Kerala, promoting sustainable farming practices.
Dr. K. N. Anith, Director of Research, KAU, inaugurated the festival, highlighting the significance of millets in ensuring food security and climate resilience. The event witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests, including Dr. Anitha S., Director (Seeds), Dr. Mani Chellappan, Dean, CoA Vellanikkara;, KAU; Dr. Prameela P., Professor & Head, Department of Agronomy; Dr. Vandana Venugopal, ADR, KAU; Dr. Sindhu P. V. ( Assistant Professor ; Ms. Prasanthi K. (Assistant Professor); Dr. Indulekha (Assistant Professor); Ms. Anjana Babu(Assistant Professor); Ms. Dhanalakshmi (Assistant Professor); and Ms. Gayathri Assistant Professor).Postgraduate and PhD students also actively participated in the festival, engaging in discussions on millet-based sustainable farming techniques. The event served as a platform to promote millet cultivation and technological advancements, reinforcing the importance of these nutrient-rich crops in Kerala’s Agriculture sector.
